Make a rich, creamy, and classic homemade Alfredo sauce from scratch in just 15 minutes using simple ingredients. This recipe delivers gourmet flavor without the fuss, perfect for your next pasta night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Do not let the butter brown.
  2. Pour in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to low.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese, a little at a time, until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
  4. Stir in the salt and black pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. Toss immediately with your favorite cooked pasta, like fettuccine, or use as a topping for chicken or vegetables.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality Parmesan cheese that you grate yourself. Pre-grated cheese often contains anti-caking agents that prevent smooth melting.
  • If the sauce seems too thick after adding the cheese, add a tablespoon or two of the reserved pasta cooking water to thin it to your desired consistency.
  • If you want a subtle garlic flavor, sauté 1 clove of minced garlic in the butter for 30 seconds before adding the heavy cream.
